The videos on this page present the exercises at a very slow tempo, 50 beats per minute.
They are all made up of 8th notes, so this tempo is basically like playing quarter notes at 100bpm. Nice and slow!
I always find that if I can learn something new at a very slow tempo, avoiding the temptation to try and speed it up beyond what I’m capable of, I actually work it up way faster!
Take your time with these slow examples on this page and the rest of the course will be a breeze!
Exercise 1
Exercise 1 covers 2 of the classic shapes. Beginning in shape 1, you slide into shape 2 at the top (just like practice suggestion 2 from the previous page) and then finish out the phrase in shape 2.
Exercise 2
In this one (like all the exercises) you begin in shape 1, and then slide at the 3rd string into shape 2, only to slide into shape 3 once you reach the first string. The rest of the phrase finishes out in shape 3.
Exercise 3
In Exercise 3 we’re adding some fun slidey sliders with a fun transition from shape 2 to shape 4. If that big slide from the 6th fret of the 1st string to the 11th fret of the 2nd string is tricky for you, just repeat that a few times until you feel comfy doing it. This one is my favorite of these to play fast.
Exercise 4
Exercise 4 combines all 5 shapes into one riff. There are a ton of slides in this one so go slow and really try to nail those slides!
