The 6th is a valuable interval to know and be fluent with on guitar due to its fantastic sound and overall usefulness. They sound great when used in rhythm parts, solos and when harmonizing melodies so there are many ways you can apply them.
In this video we’ll dive into some basic 6th interval patterns using the G major scale, looking at a couple of different ways to practice these patterns.
We will look at two exercises; a chicken picking (country style) exercise and a more pop style to give you a couple of ways to practice these nice intervals. The exercises sound great and are fun to play, focusing on musicality rather than a dry technical workout.
I think you’ll find these patterns to be beneficial in your playing, and if you are already familiar you’ll find the practice ideas interesting and challenging as well.
I hope you find this constructive and can apply these ideas to your playing to make you sound better and enjoy the instrument more.
Thanks for your support,
Trent
