Today we’re going to look at building vocabulary for improvisation by practicing rhythmic variations. We’re going to look specifically at all kinds of different combinations of 8th notes and Quarter Notes and how we can alter those rhythms to create cool ideas.
Rhythm is the foundation of music, so if you want to be a competent and fluent musician then studying rhythms is going to greatly assist you on that path. The exercises provided with today’s lesson are meant to get you playing a variety of different rhythms that you can use in improvisation.
The more deeply you ingrain these rhythms and variations, the more ways you are going to be able to use them to create solos because eventually they will come out naturally in your playing.
After the rhythm exercises we take another look at the idea of motifs, and how you can create simple phrases by using a 4 step approach to motific development. After that we’ll listen to some great guitar solos that demonstrate the idea of motific development in wonderful and musical ways.
Thanks for your support,
