Why spend time working on pentatonics?
Want to level up your understanding of the fretboard? Improving your understanding of pentatonic scales gives you the shells or “pathways” from which to more easily navigate other scales or chords on your guitar.
The pentatonic scale is embedded into countless other scales! If you have that functional knowledge you can easily adapt them by adding the notes that make up whichever particular major or minor scale you would like to use.
Working through the 5 basic pentatonic patterns will make you aware of areas of the fretboard that you are less familiar with. By doing so it will help you to focus on those areas and bridge the connections between the patterns you know better.
The pentatonic scale contains both a major and minor triad/arpeggio. Learning pentatonic scales thoroughly will help give context to many chord shapes that you know, or may learn. You can easily move from rhythm to lead playing by thoroughly understanding this relationship.
Working through the 5 basic pentatonic shapes improves your ability to shift into new positions! You can learn to connect any of the shapes at any point, and access the entire neck more freely. In the course I provide specific instructions for how to practice in order to get better at shifting positions on the neck.
The real point to make progress and have fun, and I think you’ll be able to do both with this course. That’s the goal! I want you to be use this course to increase your ability to solo in interesting and fulfilling ways.
