Looking at a chord progression that has a lot of 7ths and 9ths can look pretty tricky. But in reality a typical progression using these chords has some easy ways that you can navigate it.

Finding notes that are shared between the chords in a progression can give you an easy way to play beautiful sounding progressions that require minimal movement of your fretting hand.

This video looks at two similar a progression Eb major: I – IV – ii – V or EbMaj7 – AbMaj9 – Fmin9 – Bb13sus (looks complicated, right?) and I – vi – ii – V or EbMaj7 – Cmin9 – Fmin9 – Bb13sus.

When I figured out that these types of chord patterns have tons of common notes between the chords, it made it SO much easier to navigate them fluently.
